The season of award shows has arrived and many people around the world are tuning in to the upcoming events. Award shows like The Grammys, Golden Globes, Oscars, Emmy Awards, and more will be the celebrity-packed events of the year.

The Grammys, taking place this Sunday, January 28th, will be filled with talented artists from “Best New Artists” to “Artists of the Year”. Leading with nominations, singer/songwriter Jay-Z is up for eight Grammy Awards with his “4:44” album. Nominations include Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Following close behind is rapper Kendrick Lamar with seven nominations.

“I really like his newest album and my favorite song is LOVE ft Zacari.” sophomore Shelby Seage said.

Along with the big awards of the night, comes the Best New Artist award. Artists in this category include SZA, Khalid, Julia Michaels, Alessia Cara, and Lil Uzi Vert. With five nominations each, R+B singers SZA and Khalid are both first-time Grammy nominees.

“I think that Khalid is going to win because he’s young and his songs are relatable to a lot of people,” sophomore Emily Noe said.

Coming up after The Grammys is the Oscars. The nominations were announced this morning, with the most anticipated award of the night, Best Picture, having nine contestants. Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” continued its awards show streak, leading with 13 nominations.
