Whether you’re a dedicated subscriber, you’ve seen the craze on Twitter, or you really couldn’t care less, you’ve probably heard of 30-year-old YouTuber Shane Dawson. After being on the platform for more than 10 years, his content has evolved from crazy challenge videos, to vlogs with his best friends, and now to multiple-part documentary series. Dawson has attracted 18.6 million subscribers to his channel over the years and earns an average of 4.3 million views per video.

The video that sparked the beginning of Dawson’s highly-successful documentary series was The Truth about Tanacon. This three-part series focused on fellow YouTuber, Tana Mongeau, and her failed attempt at her own YouTube convention this past summer. It had viewers begging for more of Dawson’s “docu-series” videos. The opening video to this series brought Dawson in a total of 16.6 million views and an average of $66,400.

Another series presented by Dawson was The Secret World of Jeffree Star, focusing on multi-millionaire and business person Jeffree Star. Being known as one of the most controversial YouTubers on the platform, this series shined a light on Star and gave viewers an opportunity to see into his life behind the camera. The first video of this successful series, The Secret World of Jeffree Star, is Dawson’s most viewed video bringing in 21.7 million views and an estimated earning of $86,900.

The third and most recent series is Dawson’s eight-part production of The Mind of Jake Paul. Paul is currently seen as one of the most hated YouTubers, along with his brother Logan, due to scandals on each of their channels. After announcing the title of this series, Dawson received major backlash from fans over Twitter because of his association with the Pauls. Fans soon realized Dawson’s intention was to dive deep into the thoughts and life of the 21-year-old, and they were quickly drawn in. Dawson does it again with another successful series, resulting in a combined 120 million views on all eight videos.

These 40-minute episodes keep coming, and it doesn’t look like the King of YouTube will be stopping anytime soon.
