The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Review
February 25, 2019
Every once in a while, we all need to let out our inner child, and watching The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is the perfect way to let that happen. Five years after the first movie, the second one picks up right where the first ended with “aliens” from the planet Duplon threatening to destroy the Lego world.
Throughout the film, the main character Emmet has to travel from planet to planet trying to save his friends who have been captured by General Mayhem. Although this movie was great, it failed to do total justice to its predecessor. The first movie had a more solid and easy to follow storyline that was great for all ages, but the newest feels unsteady when it comes to the plot. Time travel, twists, and trick endings all contribute to this movie being less coherent for the audience.
Highlighted in the movie is, of course, lots of humor. Even though the first movie’s plot was better, the second movie’s humor was outmatched, hands down. Despite this technically being a children’s film, a majority of the humor seemed to be jokes that kids wouldn’t necessarily pick up on and therefore it was admired more from adults.
Also featured in the motion picture was a variety of songs that included multiple versions of the first’s most popular, Everything is Awesome, as well as new music such as Catchy Song that was indeed very catchy (no matter how hard you try to fight it).
Overall, this film is most definitely fitting to the franchise and did a wonderful job in making everyone laugh no matter your age and makes you feel like a kid again.
