This past Wednesday, October 28th, the varsity swim team participated in the District meet to determine who will move on to regionals. Senior James Lacey broke the school record for the 50m freestyle with a time of 22.9 seconds.

Lacey participated in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and two relays.

“For the 50m, I got second place and broke a school record. And for the 100m, I got fifth place. I’m probably going to go to regions for both of those,” Lacey said.

Breaking a school record is nothing new for Lacey. During last year’s postseason, Lacey and his relay team also broke a school record.

“Each of us on that relay team would swim 50m freestyle. And then our combined time had broken the previous school records combined time,” Lacey said.

With going forward into regionals, Lacey and his teammates have high hopes for how the rest of their season will turn out.

“I’ve been dropping time and all my events. And it’s nice to see the team growing. So it’s going to be nice to see them develop over the next few years,” Lacey said.
