A new face on campus has quickly become a familiar one as new Head of School Elizabeth Miller has created a strong presence on campus.
While her first official day at Holy Trinity was on July 1, Miller’s journey with Holy Trinity goes far beyond that day. Eleven years ago, when former Head of School Catherine Ford was retiring, Miller was contacted about applying for the headship at Holy Trinity. With two sons at a school very similar to Holy Trinity, Miller appreciated what she found here — the values, the size, and the environment.
However, Miller wanted experience as a head of school before applying for the position at Holy Trinity. After 10 years of experience working as a head of school at Lauralton Hall in Millford Conneticut, Miller was contacted by the same recruiter about applying for the head of school position after former head of school Dr. Katherine Cobb announced her retirement.
Miller quickly became immersed in the Holy Trinity community, finding ways to get involved and become connected with the students, faculty and staff.
“We have 970 students and their families as well as 147 faculty and staff so I am going to spend a lot of the year getting to know people and hopefully listening to their stories and why they love Holy Trinity so much,” Miller said.
Getting to know the students is exactly what Miller has spent her first two weeks on campus doing. Miller spent the first day of school at the lower campus, meeting the students and working with the faculty and staff.
At the upper campus, Miller is the first face many students see in the morning as she greets them at the carloop as they walk onto campus.
Each of these goals of connecting with the students and the larger Holy Trinity community align with Miller’s vision for the year.
“I feel that my job here is to get to know all the beautiful things about our school, its traditions, and its milestones,” Miller said. “My goal is not to change the school as much to grow the school based on the strategic plan that the Board of Trustees has set forth.”
