Among the incredible amount of talented student-athletes at Holy Trinity, Jersie Ramos stands out as an example of a student dedicated to the pursuit of athletic excellence. Ramos is a freshman varsity cheerleader, who has been cheerleading since she was four years old.
“I used to dance when I was little, and then I shifted into competitive cheerleading at Extreme Allstars,” said Ramos.
Pursuing a sport at the varsity level can be incredibly challenging, however Ramos has had an easy assimilation into the team due to the support and encouragement of her teammates. “Cheering helps with the social aspect of my life, being so close to every girl on the team,” said Ramos. She also had the opportunity to bond with her teammates over the summer, as she consistently went to practices and had the opportunity to go to a sleepaway cheer camp.
As the youngest cheerleader on varsity, Ramos describes how much she looks up to the girls she cheers with. “I definitely see Kendall [Johnson], who is my cheer big sister, as a mentor because she sets such an incredible example for me,” said Ramos.
She can attribute much of her tumbling skills to her history with Extreme Allstars cheerleading. Ramos recalls weekly practices full of tumbling and stunting classes to finetune her abilities. While she started off by taking dance lessons as a child, she was able to discover her love for cheerleading.
While Ramos is still considering her future with cheering past high school, there is no doubt that she will continue to grow as a cheerleader for the rest of her high school career. Ramos serves as a wonderful role model to any aspiring athlete, and is living proof that dedication and many hours of hard work pay off.
