As the Class of 2024 seniors finish their final year at Holy Trinity and look ahead to their futures, they first reflect back on all the lasting memories they’ve made throughout their high school journeys. From clubs to sports teams, to the classrooms and halls that have become their second homes for the past four years, the seniors have gained new knowledge, countless memories, and lifelong relationships that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Whether it’s football games or pep rallys, school events give students opportunities to show their school spirit and bond with their classmates. For senior Sydney Crane, school functions have allowed her to grow her relationships with her peers outside of the classroom.
“One of my favorite memories outside of school and sports was the homecoming game and homecoming dance because I loved hanging out with my friends and dressing up,” Crane said.
In addition to school events, Holy Trinity’s extensive extracirruculars not only enrich the mind, body, and spirit, but also create communities and strengthen connections among students who share interests. Seniors Fischer Jehs and John Mitnik describe how their time in Holy Trinity’s music programs have left them with lasting memories.
“My favorite memory is marching out to the field for the Americana-themed football game dressed in colonial attire whilst playing ‘Yankee Doodle’ on the recorder,” Jehs said. “As someone who takes the football themes very seriously, that stunt was my magnum opus.”
“I loved playing our school’s spring musicals,” Mitnik said. “It’s challenging, it’s rewarding, and it’s an opportunity to make music and meaning with some of the greatest people I know.”
Sports also play a significant role in many high schoolers’ journeys. The bonds between teammates, forged through hours of practice and all of the highs and lows of the competitive atheltic environment, leave lasting impressions on a student’s high school experience. As this year’s captain of Holy Trinity’s varisty tennis team, senior Alya Dzheneva has made a myriad of memories during her last year on the team.
“My favorite high school memory from the tennis team is when we convinced the bus driver to drive us to Chipotle on the way home from a match in Orlando,” Dzheneva said.
As their final goodbyes to the rest of Holy Trinity’s student body, seniors leave important life lessons and their advice for the high school experience:
“Just live and have fun,” Mitnik said. “Pressure makes diamonds, but in its absence the brightest flowers flourish. You’re cooler than you think, so don’t think you aren’t capable of great things.”
“For both current and upcoming high schoolers, I cannot stress enough how important it is to take classes that you actually enjoy, and take classes that you may not be familiar with,” Jehs said. “High school is not meant to be a burden, it’s meant to be an opportunity to explore your interests and continue them in college. You cannot possibly get a good grasp on what you want to do in college and beyond if you don’t take classes that strengthen what you already are interested in and classes that broaden your horizons.”
“Be nice to your teachers and develop good communication skills with them,” Crane said. “HT teachers are amazing people and they have inspired me to have a passion for learning. This communication also helps to build trust between you and your teachers.”
“My advice for current and upcoming high schoolers is to always focus on being kind, making the most of everything, and just having a good time because these four years fly by in an instant,” Dzheneva said.
