Student government plays a significant role at Holy Trinity. Each year many students run to hold office.
Student Government Association (SGA), includes members from ninth through twelfth grade. They serve as a voice for the students at Holy Trinity. Members work together to make small fixes around campus to improve student life. “Students have the ability to create change around campus,” Dykes said. Along with improving student life, SGA organizes events to benefit the community. One example is the blood drive, which SGA is planning to bring back this year.
The other half of SGA is all about school spirit. Members are in charge of planning large annual events such as homecoming, prom, pep rallies, and spirit week. These events are ones “that really get students involved in some of the activities on campus which try and bring students together” Dykes said.
In order for SGA to run the way it does, it needs good, strong, and hardworking members. “I think student government members, one, need to have a love for Holy Trinity and a love of wanting to see students more active, and two, there’s a huge work component involved so if students are not willing to work and be involved behind the scenes then they don’t do very well in the group,” Dykes said. “SGA is more of a behind the scenes organization and you have to be willing to be that service piece. It’s not always the big loud group, it’s really about students wanting to be involved in making life better here on campus,” she said.
Dykes’ vision for SGA this year is having “passionate students who put forth a fair amount of effort to make that spirit come alive on campus,” she said. “SGA should be about this blossoming, collaboration and new ideas.”
