After graduating from Holy Trinity, alumni go on to experience new beginnings in their lives. Class of 2024 graduate, Ashlyn Borborolgu, and Class of 2022 graduate, Bella Johnson, are now members of sororities at Ole Miss and the University of Alabama.
Borboroglu just began her freshman year at Ole Miss. Along with the excitement of starting college, she decided that joining a sorority is something she would also like to do.
“I had a great recruitment experience, I really enjoyed learning and going through the process. It was very tiring and stressful but it was so worth it in the end,” Borboroglu said. Recruitment consists of many different activities and is a very rigorous process. “My rush consisted of 10 days. The first was Greek Day where we all gathered in the basketball stadium and watched short videos on each chapter,” Borboroglu said.
“For each round that happens you will get your schedule at 8 a.m. and rank your houses after each round is completed,” Borboroglu said. “On the second day, the philanthropy round started. This round is three days long, and you can get up to eight houses back for this one,” Borboroglu said. During these three days, the different houses share about organizations they volunteer and donate to. They also discuss what type of events will be held for their philanthropy. “The third round is sisterhood, this round is also three days long, and you get a maximum of five houses back,” Borboroglu said. “During this round they talk more about the events that they do to bring all the girls together and why they chose their sorority,” she said. The second to last round is Preference, this round is one day and you can only get a maximum of 2 houses back. “During this round the talks are more deep, this is also your chance to tell why you want to run home to them on bid day,” Borboroglu said.
After all the rounds, Borboroglu ended up joining Alpha Phi. “I chose this sorority because of the loving atmosphere in it. Going through the rush process I fell in love with all the people I talked to, and I felt comfortable being myself around all the girls. I truly am so happy with my choice and have met so many amazing people within Alpha Phi,” said Borboroglu.
This year Borboroglu is looking forward to all the fun events the sorority will be holding and she cannot wait to experience this next chapter in her life as a part of a new sorority.
Class of 2022 graduate, Bella Johnson, is a junior at the University of Alabama. Being part of a sorority for the past two years means a lot to her and has shaped her into the person she is today.
Johnson is part of the sorority Pi Beta Phi, also called Pi Phi. “Being a Pi Phi has been an incredibly transformative experience for me. The sisterhood I am a part of has provided me with a network of driven, intelligent, and kind women who have helped me grow as a young woman,” Johnson said.
“Holy Trinity taught me the value of community, and Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropy is
Read>Lead>Achieve. All of these philanthropic endeavors go towards eliminating childhood illiteracy. We raise money to give to teachers and students in Tuscaloosa County Elementary Schools, as Alabama has some of the most underfunded and understaffed school districts in the United States,” Johnson said.
Johnson said her favorite sorority memory was Bid Day. “This year my little sister, Kendall, got to run home and accept her bid invitation to Pi Beta Phi just two years after I joined. When Kendall rushed and saw those same characteristics in Pi Phi that I did when I rushed, it meant the world to me that we could share the blessings and opportunities of this amazing chapter with each other,” Johnson said.
