The Holy Trinity girls varsity basketball team is making an impressive mark this season with a current record of 14-6 and a recent ten-game winning streak. They are positioning themselves as one of the top contenders in the league, driven by a combination of strategic gameplay, teamwork, and relentless effort.
“Our team has improved a lot this year from energy to leadership, as well as teamwork,” senior Savannah Schultz said. With these improvements, the team hopes to successfully accomplish their goals for the season.
The team has high expectations for this year. “Our team goals are to hopefully make it to state this year, and we have been working really hard to achieve that. We have been playing difficult teams from out of our county in order to prepare us for the postseason,” sophomore Samantha Fraser said.
Despite their busy schedule, the players excel at balancing basketball with their schoolwork. Schultz shared, “I have been playing basketball for so long it’s easy to balance it. I also use my open period to finish work.” Thanks to their experience, managing their schedules has become a second nature.
“Our average practice consists of multiple full-court drills for conditioning, and then we work on both our offensive and defensive sets in the full court and half court. Occasionally, we do full-court scrimmages utilizing all of our defenses and offensive plays,” Fraser said.
One of the team’s greatest strengths is their chemistry both on and off the court. “We are able to play well together because outside of basketball we have all become very close friends. This allows us to transfer our energy and chemistry from off the court into games,” senior Izzy Henderson said. The players emphasize the importance of strong relationships, which translates into their performance during games.
However, the season has not been without its challenges. “The most challenging game for us this season was against Gateway High School. They are a physical team that fights hard to win.” To prepare for such tough matchups, the team focuses on both their mental and physical strength. “We prepared for this game by practicing how to play strong mentally and physically together,” Henderson said.
As the season progresses, the team remains focused on working hard and staying dedicated. Their combination of talent, teamwork, and determination continues to make this season a memorable one. The rest of the season promises to be an exciting journey, with everyone eager to support the team on their path to victory.
