The Holy Trinity cross country team’s season has just begun, and they are already showing signs of a promising year ahead. With high goals and a dedicated training schedule, the Tigers are ready to take on the races this fall.
“Our team goal this year is to place in the top five in the state and for everyone to PR,” said senior captain Mooney.
The Tigers opened their season a couple of weeks ago with a meet at MCC, where both the boys’ and girls’ teams placed high, proving that they could be a serious threat this year.
Much of that success comes from the hard work put in during the summer. The team spent a week in North Carolina, where they ran through mountain trails and built endurance. The trip pushed athletes both physically and mentally, laying the foundation for a strong start to the season. However, athletes continued to put in the work even outside of the trip.
“Over the summer I focused on strength training to prevent injury along with running steady mileage each week to prepare for the season,” said Hale.
Hale also described what a typical practice looks like: “My average practice starts with a 1-2 lap warmup on the track, followed by stretching and dynamic warmups, depending on the training session. We have 1 speed workout a week, along with a tempo run, long run, and 3-4 moderate runs.”
Balancing the demands of cross country with schoolwork is no easy task, but the Tigers are disciplined both on and off the course. “During the season I try to get my homework or projects done during class, or I finish it in my quiet study,” said Connors.
The team also prioritizes healthy routines to ensure peak performance. “Me and my team prepare for upcoming meets by making sure we’re eating well, getting lots of sleep, and training hard,” Connors added.
The Tigers’ next meet is scheduled for Saturday, September 6th, in Winter Springs, where they’re eager to compete again.
As the season progresses, one thing is clear: this year’s Holy Trinity cross country team isn’t just running miles—they’re running toward a legacy.
