Spirit lets hear it! More like nowhere near it.
Friday night football games should be accompanied with a roaring student section, ecstatic cheerleaders, and a football team that feels excited and supported. Instead, most students don’t even attend the games, leaving the cheerleaders alone to cheer on the football team.
When walking around school on a Friday you may ask someone, “Are you going to the game tonight?” and most likely their answer would be “No.” Instead, this answer should be “Yes.”
Having an excited and energetic student section can boost the morale of the football team as well as the cheerleaders. Cheerleaders spend the entire game cheering on and supporting the football team, but they aren’t the only ones who should be. The cheerleaders job is to not only support the football team but also to get the crowd excited. If there is nobody in the crowd, it makes it harder for the cheerleaders to do so. If the student section is full of students who are excited to be there it will boost the morale of the team and the overall spirit of the game.
Every home game has a theme. These themes are set in place to encourage students to attend and dress up. The issue is that even amongst the small number of students that actually show up, very few of them even dress the theme. The point of the theme is to get students excited and encourage them to go ‘all out.’ More announcements and social media posts should be made to remind and encourage students to not only attend, but dress up.
The real question is: why don’t students attend the games? Holy Trinity students are very busy. Between academics, athletics, and afterschool commitments they don’t have time for much else. But, given that football games are on Friday nights that would allow for more students to be able to attend.
The next home game is October 10th and the theme is pink out. Come out and support the football team and cheerleaders dressed out in all pink!
