Alum Megan Mullen is continuing her education at the University of the Arts London to get her Masters in Documentary Film. She will be graduating in November 2025. Prior to attending school in London, Mullen went to SCAD in Savannah, Georgia.
Mullen attends school two days of the week and works at a film production company the other three days. At school, Mullen has classes about pitching documentaries or structuring films. “We have teachers and professors from the BBC, so it’s like a broadcasting network,” Mullen said. She also has film production companies come in to guest lecture in her classes. “For example, this week we are learning more about pitching, and we have to do a 20 minute film by the end of the course. They teach us how to pitch in a short amount of time or how to structure a good story,” Mullen said. “Everyone there is very motivated and passionate about film making which is really nice.”
Aside from attending school, Mullen gets to experience the lively city of London. “Some of my best memories so far have been filming for theater. I work at a company called ‘T-films and we get to go see a lot of plays which is really fun,” Mullen said. She gets to edit trailers for the theater shows or musicals that are coming out. While working with ‘T-films’, Mullen gets the opportunity to film plays and then will get free tickets to watch other plays afterwards. “It’s really fun to have the perk of being like “Oh my gosh, I filmed this” and my friends can come with me and I have free tickets to go watch theater shows and musicals with them,” Mullen said. Along with getting to film and watch plays with her friends, Mullen enjoys being out in the city with her friends. “All of the touristy and fun stuff never gets old,” Mullen said.
After graduating, Mullen wants to focus on documentary development and work as a documentary researcher. “If you’re hired by a large company like a film production company or broadcasting network, they send you out to research stories. “Something that I figured out that I was pretty good at work was being able to talk to random people, figure out a story, interview people, and structure a schedule for film production,” Mullen said.
