With students getting back into the groove of homework, tests, and classes after winter break, the Holy Trinity Boys Lacrosse season is just getting started. The team is eager to get this season underway and is looking forward to winning some titles. With some determined opponents like St. Edwards and American Heritage, the team has already started putting in the hard work and training that it will take to beat these teams. As the 2026 season commences and their first game is just around the corner, the team has set new standards to guarantee more wins throughout this season and is excited to see how their hard work pays off.
“I have been playing lacrosse for the past six years,” said junior Drew Zabinski. Last season, Zabinski was an incredible player who scored 59 total goals which led him to be rarely taken off the field. After playing such an incredible season and being one of the leading scorers on the team, he has been named one of this year’s captains. Taking on that title comes with a great amount of responsibility. Zabinski has set many goals for himself and his teammates for this new season.
“My goal for us as a team this year is to make it to the state championships and win,” Zabinski said.
As the season commences, the boys have been preparing to face some yearly rivals but also some newer challenging teams. One of the most challenging games they will face this season will be against American Heritage. “Our toughest game is probably going to be American Heritage because their face off guy is committed to a division 1 school for lacrosse,” said junior Collin Munro. This will be Munro’s second year on the Holy Trinity boys varsity team and his eighth year playing lacrosse. “I’m most excited for the game against Viera because it is our only other competition in the district and we blew them out last year so hopefully we can do it again,” said Munro.
Most players on the boys team are not just teammates on the Holy Trinity fields but also on the club fields. Junior Roan Wright is a third year returning varsity player who specializes in the midfield. Besides Holy Trinity, Wright plays for High Tide Lacrosse Club. “My favorite part about playing club lacrosse is the tournaments we compete in,” Wright said. Although they are lacrosse teams, playing school and club are different in some ways. “The main difference is the length of the games compared to school,” Wright said. Club games use a running clock which shortens games compared to a “stop clock” used during the school season.
Junior Colton Weisbrod also plays for High Tide Lacrosse Club. Weisbrod has been on varsity for two years and plays offensive midfield. “My favorite part about playing club is spending time with my high school team and building chemistry for our regular season,” Weisbrod said.
A big part of any sport is the energy that comes from the fans and the team. “It’s nice to see familiar faces in the crowd when playing,” sophomore Brady Spratt said. Having students come out to the games creates a vibrant atmosphere of excitement that enhances the whole game for everyone, especially the players.
Even with the homework, tests, and other extracurricular activities, the boys lacrosse team still finds a way to balance this sport into their schedule. They have put an immense amount of dedication and hard work into preparing for this upcoming season and are expecting some more titles and trophies. With their main focus being going to states, the boys need all the support they can get! Their first home game is February 11 against rival Merritt Island. Come out and support the boys!
